COLLECTION
SUBCATEGORY: I tell ya honestly, I'm weird. I'll collect almost anything. Anything including Madonna headvases. They're so simple and serene, AND you can put flowers in them too. What a concept! My interest in art depicting the Virgin Mary came from the strange fact that I was actually conceived at Our Lady of Lourdes grotto in France. (Why my parents were having sex there, I really DON'T want to know.) I've actually been to the amazing grotto, and my parents made me bathe with lepers. (In retrospect my folks are weird too. Heck, they named me Love.) I'm not a religious freak, but all religions are intriguing to me and I admire all art made with faith. Actually, I considered taking World Religions as my major in college, but then decided that it would be most dull with all that debating and such, so I wound up going to art school instead. Less reading, ya know. Anyway, I collect all sorts of religious icons, from Buddhas to Ganeshes and such, as well as dusty old books like my 1864 Holy Bible, but none are as impressive as my Madonna collection. So here it is, unveiled... or veiled, as it were. |

This is the one Madonna headvase to rule them all, and is the one that got me into collecting Madonnas in the first place. My mom had this since I was a little kid and I used to polish it frequently. She gave it to me a couple of years ago, and it's my favorite. It is marked 417-USA. |
This is another lovely Madonna headvase with minimal painting and a very pretty set of hands. I love that it's less rigid, and more feminine than most of the others. It is marked Rubens Original and is Made in Japan. |
|
This Madonna headvase is simply marked Made In Japan with no other details. |
This particular Madonna headvase is marked Relpo 6039 and is Made in Japan. |
|
This Madonna is a simple ornamental statuette, not an actual headvase. It is engraved on the bottom as "Greta" which leads me to believe it was hand painted by some artist many years ago. |
This Madonna bust is quite similar in shape to the one on the left, and "Linda Jahrling Dec 25 1973" is written on the underside in ballpoint pen. This statuette must have been frequently available in craft stores at the time. |
|
This Madonna headvase is marked Shafford Japan 4156. |
This Madonna headvase is unmarked and undated with a cracked glazing. |
|
This Madonna headvase is labeled ArtMark and Made In Japan. |
This Madonna headvase is simply labeled Made In Japan. |
|
This Madonna is actually an unmarked wall plaque given to me by my friend Melissa. |
This is my Madonna music box which plays Ave Maria when you open the compartment. |
|
This is an unmarked Madonna wall hanger that I found at the Salvation Army. |
This is a Madonna and Child Greek icon that my mom gave me. |
|
Naturally, I also collect non-Madonna headvases, such as this exquisite Betty Grable piece. |
Also in my collection is this excellent chalk bust of a Filipina woman. I love that she has a shell necklace on. |
That's about it for now. I can't imagine anyone would be interested in viewing this, but ya never know on this Weird Wide Web thingee. |
