C H U M

I know it sounds weird, but I'm fascinated by the word CHUM.

Chum by definition can mean a number of things:

1.) A chum salmon.
2.) An intimate friend or companion, or sidekick.
(Much like how Robin is Batman's chum,
or George and Bess are chums to Nancy Drew!)
3.) To occupy a chamber with another; as, to chum together at college.
4.) A kind of griddlecake of unleavened bread,
used among the natives of India.

...and then there's my favorite definition:

5.) Bait usually consisting of chopped up oily fish
ground up and scattered on the water.

Being a deranged collector with peculiar tastes,
below you will find some items
from my personal chum exhibit.
I do really own most of these items
though a few items were just pix given to me.

See for yourself the many wonderful incarnations of CHUM

This here CHUM BAG (rhymes with SCUM BAG!) is my most-prized item in my private collection. It was given to me by my friend Dara, who brought it from the Philippines. It is made of Fun Chum juice box wrappers. Wow!

This is my second most-prized item in my private collection, an opened vintage box of Chum soap.

Unfortunately, it does not smell like ground up fish bait. If it did, you know I would happily bathe myself in that oily, fishy goodness.

It's true, the ladies love the hearty flavor and aphrodisiac qualities of CHUM!

Since the ladies love the CHUM,
the Hardy Boys are on the lookout to score some.

This here is an incredible motorcycle
seat banner. Hell's Angels, eat your
chum out!

This is a fantastic wrapper for CHUM GUM. (You know what it rhymes with!)

I wonder if this tasted like ground up salmon parts.

Nothing says friendship like a double-edged CHUM blade!

This is a wonderful box for a CHUM alarm clock. I have the box, though unfortunately there was no clock inside.

Dial 1050 Radio Station released dozens of playlists in the 60s.

I found this framed CHUMMY grape label in a surplus store in Provincetown, MA.

Starbucks can't hold a candle to the smooth and creamy flavor of COFFEE CHUM non-dairy creamer!

Forget Kung Fu and learn CHUM KIU!

CHUM tobacco makes you feel alive with pleasure!

Here's a picture of some delicious Indian CHUM pickles! Nothing sez yummy like some chummy in your tummy!

A new addition on January 14th, 2003! Thanks to Jessica for notifying me of this awesome eBay find, I had to purchase it immediately.

Apparently, it's a WWII repro poster which was part of the whole "Loose Lips Sink Ships" propoganda campaign. It's curiously morbid, what with the bloody hand (stigmata maybe?) just sinking into the depths of the ocean while the sailor hat floats by.

The pathos that is chum.

Believe it or not, I have other CHUM items I haven't had a chance to photograph yet
from a CHUM caliper to numerous CHUM tobacco tins to CHUM art and CHUM lures.

One of these days, my chums. One of these days...

In the meantime, my love of CHUM has inspired me to make a comic book with the same name. Keep checking this website for future updates of the CHUM Adventures!

I've also just discovered that there's a province in Thailand called Chum Phon.
CHUM FUN ya say? I am soooo there on my next vacation!

If you or one of your chums knows of any outrageously delightful collectibles with the word CHUM printed right smack on it, then please feel free to e-mail me with the URL.

Thanks, chum!
