@_@ Sneak Peek: ich bin 8 bit @ Neurotitan Gallery, Berlin

Posted on 17 March 2009

5 dedicated artists.
48 hours.
15,000 Post-It Notes.
Only ONE hour of sleep for me. (Though it was a glorious one!)

It was utter jet-lagged madness to say the least. But by some miracle we managed to finish installing the “ich bin 8 bit” exhibition at Neurotitan Gallery in Berlin within 2 days! I’m surprised I’m still mildly coherent because this morning the Post-Its were starting to look round to me.

We’ve learned quite a number of things on this trip:

1.) Post-It Notes are not all the same size or color. :/ (WTF?)
2.) Post-It Notes are not as easy to tile as it looks.
3.) We’re fucking awesome and we made it work anyway, just in time for the opening reception earlier today!
4.) Berlin hookers generally wear ski-boots, puffy jackets and fanny packs. RAD!

I can’t type in great detail right now: I’ve got intermittent wifi that keeps disconnecting me anytime I try to do anything online. And intermittent brain synapses that makes me space out and forget what I was doing in the first place. Need food. Need sleep. Need backrub. Need somebody to pinch me!

I will say that though that people seemed to really respond enthusiastically to the installation. Some of my favorite comments in the guest book so far:

~ “Great space, inventive work.”

~ “What an awesome place to stumble across! Keep it up!”

~ “SICK! Which in NW London means AWESOME!”

And my very favorite:

~ “Just gorgeous. So simple. So playful. So effective.”

I look forward to getting more feedback from visitors tomorrow.

I can’t even comprehend all that has happened in the last 3 days. I barely remember flying to Germany. Now that I think about it, I barely remember today. It’s all one huge pixelated blur. Tomorrow I get to rest a little bit, so I’ll try to mentally process everything over some “kaffee mit milch”. Meawhile, I just need to go lie down and close my eyes for a decent night’s rest. So ridiculously tired. But also incredibly happy and grateful for this experience. It also feels great to be back in Berlin, and to reconnect with old friends and meet some new ones too.

Before I crawl under the covers and have weird dreams of floating pixels and fanny packs, here’s a sneak preview of the exhibit, just a quickie panorama of some of the walls in the gallery:

And here’s a sneak behind-the-scenes picture of Jude, Jon and I at work just a couple of hours before sunrise:

ich bin 8 bit - Behind The Scenes

There’s many many more rad photos, exhibition details, and a full quicktime video of the Time-Lapse photography to come soonish. It all might have to wait until we all get back to the states though. Until then, (or at least, until I can get reliable internet access)… Guten Nacht!

Much love and thanks to my awesome manpanions Jude and Jon, and also Inga and Andy for helping us tile, and of course Neurotitan Gallery and Pictoplasma! Without all of these guys, the exhibit never would have seen the light of day. Danke shoen!
