Artist's Bio :

A designer for over a decade, Love Ablan (b. 1974) has created graphics and content for print, web, film and television, as well as sets and props for fashion photographer David LaChapelle. Despite working in creative fields for most of her adult life, Love did not begin exhibiting her own work until 2 years ago upon the spontaneous creation of her first plush doll, Sockrates. She has since focused all of her time and energy into her personal creative endeavors. Love's plush toys and illustrations can be seen in the character design book, Pictoplasma II by Peter Thaler, published by Die Gestalten Verlag. Her dolls have been exhibited in numerous galleries in New York, Texas and Berlin. She has also participated in the Rinzen design collective's recent RMX Neighborhood exhibit and toy-making workshop. She also frequently exhibits in a number of other mediums from painting to photography, and is an associate member of the Mamaroneck Artist's Guild in Westchester, NY where she resides.

Artist's Statement :

Motivated by my own amusement and the gratifying rush I get from creating, I am ruled by instinct rather than reason, and I am moved by shapes and colors and my own kinetic rhythm in a meditative state. A romanticist at heart, my work is often intended to evoke innocent idealism. What unifies my pieces is not the materials, style or subject matter, but rather the innate playfulness and lack of irony.
